Posted: July 10, 2002
The West Virginia Department of Education will host the 52nd Annual South Eastern Pupil Transportation Conference July 14-17 at the Charleston Marriott Town Center. State and local school transportation administrators from as far as Texas and Florida will participate in the annual conference.
“Hosting a conference of this size allows us to showcase not only our priority with school bus safety, but also allows those who have never visited the Mountain State to learn how great West Virginia is,” said School Transportation Director Wayne Clutter.
Conference participants will discuss various school transportation issues such as school bus recall, the Head Start Final Rule (transportation of Head Start students), and seat belt use on school buses. In addition, school bus administrators from four different states, including West Virginia, will lead a panel discussion on state school bus inspections, which will feature a hands-on inspection demonstration.
Included during the three-day event will be opening remarks on Monday, July 15 by State Schools Superintendent David Stewart and a trade show with all the major bus manufacturers featuring the latest of school bus safety devices.
