The Big Wieners: The Singing Tigers, Mrs. Coulson, and Their New Mascot

Posted: May 24, 2002
Scott Teays Elementary's Singing Tiger choirs, under the direction of Cynthia Coulson, are finalists in Oscar Mayer's Talent Search School House Jam.

Coulson's choirs include third, fourth, and fifth grade students.

They performed an arrangement of "I Wish I Were an Oscar Mayer Wiener" for their video entry in this national contest sponsored jointly by the Oscar Mayer company and the Music Educator's National Conference.

As the West Virginia winner of this contest, the Scott Teays entry, arranged by Stanley Farr of Morgantown, garnered the music program at Scott Teays $10,000.00.

As an added bonus, the Wienermobile and the Hotdoggers will visit the school for a check presentation on May 31st.

The group is now entered into national competition which could mean a chance to appear in a television commerical.

This is the third year for the school's choirs, the only organization of its type in Putnam County elementary schools. This year members performed for West Virginia Governor Bob Wise at the state Christmas tree lighting ceremony. The groups have also served as demonstration choirs for teacher training, as well as performing for Parent Teacher academies.

The Oscar Mayer Talent Search School House Jam was open to elementary schools in all states and the District of Columbia.
