221 Eighth Grade Students to Be Inducted into the Golden Horseshoe Society Posted: May 10, 2002 State Superintendent Dr. David Stewart and members of the West Virginia Board of Education will lead the induction ceremonies as 221 West Virginia eighth graders receive the prestigious Golden Horseshoe award on Wednesday, May 15. The awards ceremony will be held in the Cultural Center Theatre in Charleston. Students receiving the award will be inducted as “knights” and “ladies” of the Golden Horseshoe Society. Students receive the award for outstanding performance on the Golden Horseshoe test, a test that assesses students’ knowledge of West Virginia culture and history. Governor Bob Wise will address the students and guests during the opening ceremony.
