ANNOUNCEMENT FROM STATE SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS

Posted: September 11, 2001
In view of events unfolding this morning, the West Virginia Department of Education recommends that schools remain open and operate on regular schedules.

Parents should be allowed to pick up their children if they desire. This recommendation comes in response to a number of phone calls received by the West Virginia Department of Education from school systems and parents across the state.

We have talked with the Governorís office and they are not aware of any threat to anything or anyone in West Virginia.

Also note that the September State Board of Education meeting has been cancelled.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
