WV Art Students Honored by Governor, State Superintendent

Six West Virginia art students were recognized by Governor Bob Wise and State Superintendent Dr. David Stewart as winners of the 2001 Youth Art Month Design Contest.
The students were honored during a ceremony at the Capitol in Charleston. Students throughout West Virginia competed in four categories –- poster, flag, catalogue cover and certificate design –- in the contest sponsored by the West Virginia Art Education Association. During today’s ceremony, Governor Wise proclaimed March as West Virginia Youth Art Month.
Tara Mathews, South Harrison Middle School, Harrison County, was honored as the winning poster designer; Erica Fruit, Woodrow Wilson High School, Raleigh County, was honored for her catalogue cover design; Jessica Anderson, Ripley Middle School, Jackson County, was honored for her certificate design; and Jeff Bee, Parkersburg South High School, Wood County, was recognized for his flag design. Ashley Dean of Ravenswood Middle School (Jackson County) and Lauren Hayes of Wheeling Middle School (Ohio County) were recognized as honorable mention winners in the flag design category.
Each of the four first place winners received a $50 savings bond, compliments of BB&T.
