W.Va. Board Approves Policy Changes During July Meeting

CHARLESTON. W.Va. – Several policy changes were approved during the July West Virginia Board of Education (WVBE) meeting.
A waiver concerning certain sections of Policy 5310 Performance Evaluation of School Personnel was approved. The waiver will implement the new educator evaluation system in 136 schools, which includes the 25 pilot schools from the 2011-2012 school year. The selected schools from each county were chosen by the superintendent along with an institutional education program and career and technical center.
Policy 1224.1 Accounting Procedures Manual for Public Schools was also approved during the July meeting. The policy changes repealed and replaced the current accounting procedures manual. The policy prescribes the basic accounting requirements that have been established by the WVBE. After reviewing comment, no changes were made to the revision and the policy was approved.
Policy 8200 Purchasing Policies and Procedures Manual is being updated to clarify the use of cooperative and pooled purchasing arrangements. After being placed for public comment for 30 days, no comments were received and the policy was approved.
Minor changes to Policy 2510 Assuring Quality of Education: Regulations for Education Programs were approved to reflect the adoption of the Next Generation Content Standards and Objectives for English language arts, literacy, mathematics and the new adoption of standards for social studies. In addition, an English 12 College and Career Readiness Course and language clarifying Advance Placement requirements were added to the policy.
