Health, Education Officials Visit State to Learn about Healthy Schools

May 04, 2000

Teams of health and education officials from 14 states will travel to West Virginia later this week for a three-day training session on promoting health behaviors among young people hosted by the West Virginia Department of Education. As part of the state’s multi-million dollar funding project from the Centers for Disease Control, the Department of Education has trained hundreds of educators over the past five years on promoting healthy schools.

The consortium event will be held at the Charleston Marriott May 7-9. Participants will learn how to improve the capacity of states to implement the Centers for Disease Control guidelines related to physical activity, nutrition and tobacco at the state, regional, local and school level.

A special performance by the Hurricane High School “Red Hot Show Choir” will be held at 7:30 p.m., Monday, May 8 in the theatre of the West Virginia Cultural Center. It will also feature demonstrations of extracurricular activities that promote healthy behavior among young people.
