Two State Schools Honored for Outstanding Service-Learning Programs Posted: May 01, 2000 Two West Virginia schools were among only 66 schools across the country named National Service-Learning Leader Schools on May 1. WVDE at Davis Stuart School in Lewisburg was one of only 34 middle schools across the country given the award, and Morgantown High School was one of only 32 high schools given the prestigious award. School teams have been invited to Washington in June to receive the Presidential Award, attend a congressional reception and receive three days of training. "Leader Schools are not only improving teaching and learning, but they're helping shape better citizens. These young people are learning early the importance of giving back to their community," said Harris Wofford, CEO of the Corporation for National Service, which administers the awards program. |
