Department of Education to Conduct Onsite Reviews of Educator Preparation Programs

CHARLESTON, W.Va. _ The West Virginia Department of Education has scheduled onsite reviews early next year of educator preparation programs offered by Appalachian Bible College in Raleigh County, Ohio Valley University in Wood County and Salem International University in Harrison County to determine if standards stipulated in state policy are being met.

A review team will visit Salem International University on Feb. 4, 5, 6; Ohio Valley University on Feb. 18, 19, and 20; and Appalachian Bible College on Feb. 28 and 29.

The West Virginia Department of Education recognizes that graduates, employers, parents, schools and community organizations have valuable perspectives on the quality of the programs that prepare teachers, principals and other school personnel.

We invite interested parties to submit written comments by Jan. 10, 2008, on the educator preparation programs offered by Salem International University to:

Comments must address substantive matters related to the quality of educator preparation programs offered at Appalachian Bible College, Ohio Valley University or Salem International University, and should specify the respondent’s relationship, if any, to the institutions. Such relationships would include graduates, present or former faculty members, employers of graduates, or other connections.
