CHARLESTON, W.Va. _ Two students attending public high schools in West Virginia are recipients of the 2007 Achievement Award in Writing given by the National Council of Teachers of English.
Kelli Barnette of Parkersburg South High School in Wood County and Jessica Judy of Pendleton County High School are among 595 students nationwide to be honored this year as outstanding writers.
They were chosen from 1,937 students who were nominated in their junior years by their teachers for the award, which recognizes writing excellence.
The West Virginia students were singled out by a team of judges made up by West Virginia English teachers. The judges looked for writing that demonstrated effective and imaginative use of language.
