CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The West Virginia Board of Education voted Wednesday to extend the public comment period on revisions to its policy governing the education of children with special needs.

Comments on changes to Policy 2419: Regulations for the Education of Students with Exceptionalities will now be accepted until 4:45 p.m. on Jan. 12, 2007. Written comments may be submitted online at http://wvde.state.wv.us; faxed to (304) 558-3741; or mailed to Robin K. Bolling, Office of Special Programs, Extended and Early Learning, 1900 Kanawha Blvd. East, Building 6, Room 304, Charleston, WV 25305.

Six of eight scheduled public hearings have been conducted across West Virginia since November to give parents and other interested people the opportunity to address proposed revisions.

The remaining hearings will be conducted Jan. 3 at Robert C. Byrd High School, One Eagle Way, Clarksburg, and on Jan. 11 at Wright Denny Intermediate School, 209 West Congress St., Charles Town. Both hearings will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The Charles Town hearing replaces an earlier one that had been scheduled for Jan. 2 at Martinsburg High School.
