State Board Approves Policy Updates

CHARLESTON, W.Va. _ The West Virginia Board of Education has approved updates to several state policies and voted to placed others on public comment.
Board members approved Policy 2340, West Virginia Measures of Academic Progress. This policy outlines steps to ensure that all statewide assessments of student performance are secure as required by state law. The update clarifies language and clearly defines security requirements.
Also approved were changes to Policy 2445.40, Groupings for Textbook Adoption for Early Childhood Education, Middle Childhood Education and Adolescent Education. This policy sets the schedule and groupings for adoption of instructional material. The update provides the schedule for adoption instructional material through 2015.
Policy 2445.41, Textbooks Adoption: Notice Request and Instructions to Publishers, was placed on a 30-day public comment period. It governs how a written request is issued to vendors for bids, samples and prices of textbooks. The revised policy updates language to allow bids to be submitted electronically.
Educators, parents and community members are encouraged to review the policies and make suggestions. Policies can be viewed on the West Virginia Department of Education Web site at http://wvde.state.wv.us/policies.
