School Speech Pathologists, Counselors and Audiologists In Line for Financial Shot in the Arm

Posted: July 31, 2006
Charleston, W.Va. The West Virginia Department of Education is now accepting applications for a salary supplement and fee reimbursement for school speech pathologists, counselors and audiologists. This action comes after the West Virginia Board of Education approved Policy 5202 Minimum Requirements for the Licensure of Professional/Paraprofessional Personnel and Advanced Salary Classifications during its July Board meeting. Policy 5202 aligns state school policy with West Virginia Senate Bill 783.

Professional personnel in the West Virginia public schools who hold advanced certification by the American Speech-Language Association (ASHA), the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) or the West Virginia Board of Examiners in Counseling (WVBEC) may be rewarded a salary supplement and / or national board fee reimbursement when employed in the public schools in the position in which they hold the board certification.

The applications will be accepted until September 15, 2006, for the first year. All applications for the first year will be batch-processed after September 15, 2006, to determine the one hundred who will receive the salary supplement and the one hundred who will receive the fee reimbursement, by seniority, for the first year. Applications for the second year and all years thereafter will be accepted between January 1 and September 15 of each year.

Application Form 33 for the fee reimbursement and application Form 43 for the salary supplement may be downloaded from the WVDE certification page located at: http://wvde.state.wv.us/certification/forms.html. Additional information about the salary supplement and the fee reimbursement will accompany the applications on the website.
