Companies Must Register to Participate in Summer Food Program
Posted: February 03, 2000
New food service management companies wanting to contract with sponsors of the Summer Food Service Program must first register with the West Virginia Department of Education.
Companies having questions about this program or needing application information should contact the West Virginia Department of Education, Office of Child Nutrition, Building 6, Room 248, 1900 Kanawha Boulevard, East, Charleston, West Virginia 25305-0330, or phone (304) 558-2708.
Any sponsor of the program is permitted to contract through a bidding procedure with a food service management program to operate its entire food service program or to prepare meals to be served under this program. However, current regulations require that new food service management companies register with the state as a prerequisite to participating in any program within the state in 2000. Registration will be revoked if a food service management company does not follow the proper bidding procedure.
Through grants-in-aid and other means, the Summer Food Service Program for Children assists West Virginia and other states to initiate, maintain and expand nonprofit food service programs for children during the summer months, when regular school lunch and breakfast programs are not available.
