The First Annual Summer Institute for Social Studies is slated for July 24 to July 27, 2006.
The goal of the institute is to host county social studies teams consisting of 3 elementary, 3 middle school and 3 high school teachers and their county social studies or curriculum coordinator and 1 member from higher education.
The team members will attend a variety of workshops and hear nationally recognized speakers and authors in the fields of civics, economics, entrepreneurship and geography. Each county team will develop an action plan for countywide professional development that will evolve throughout the next three years in preparation for the new initiatives in the social studies field.
The sessions will include: Free materials; Books; Technology integration for social studies; 21st century skills and tools; New CSO and Performance Descriptors; WV Achieves High Performing Classrooms; Financial literacy; Civics/government; Economics; Entrepreneurship; WV History (primarily for eighth grade teachers); Geography;
Included in the conference: Dinner the first evening; Breakfast, lunch, and afternoon breaks the following three days; Free materials and resources;
