West Virginians connected to the Internet can now use their computer to learn about many school closings and delays.
Today, the West Virginia Department of Education officially unveiled its new School Closings/Delays Website -- http://wvde.state.wv.us/closings/ -- a site designed to provide people with on-demand, up-to-the-minute information.
“This website is a place where teachers, parents and even the news media can learn about school closings, delays and other announcements relayed by participating county boards of education,” said State Superintendent Dr. Henry Marockie. “Information will be available on our website almost instantly after it is posted by participating counties.”
Dr. Marockie said that the site is not designed to supplant traditional means of communicating school closings and delays information, but it is being provided as a service to county systems, school system employees, parents, students and the news media.
As of January 31, participating county school systems included: Barbour, Berkeley, Brooke, Calhoun, Clay, Hardy, Harrison, Hancock, Kanawha, McDowell, Monongalia, Nicholas, Pleasants, Randolph, Roane, Taylor, Tucker, Upshur, Webster, Wetzel and Wood. More counties are signing up for the service each day.
