WVDE Employee Receives National Award

Charleston, W.Va. - A West Virginia Department of Education employee was recently recognized for her advocacy for school counselors and students. Lisa Burton, coordinator for the Office Student Services and Health Promotion, was named Advocate of the Year by the American School Counselors Association (ASCA).

Each year, the ASCA honors individuals throughout the country who have made major contributions to the school counseling profession.  

Burton was formally recognized in June at a special ceremony during the association’s annual conference in Orlando, Fla.  

Aside from working with school counselors, Burton also is the coordinator for West Virginia’s Character Education program, as well as attendance, drop out and at-risk student prevention.
