National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) Board Certification Salary Supplement for West Virginia Educators The West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) recognizes, appreciates and encourages those meeting the needs of WV learners in an instructional capacity within our public schools. One effort to demonstrate the value of these teachers is the awarding of a state salary supplement to teachers holding board certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. In addition, the recognition of NBPTS board certification on the WV professional teaching certificate provides an avenue for WV and the teacher to verify that the teacher meets the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) high qualified teacher status.
