Ms. Debra Berry
RE: Faculty_Senate_Meetings
Dear Ms. Berry:
You have asked: "Are teachers required to attend faculty senate meetings, or may they work in their classrooms during this time?" Teachers must attend faculty senate meetings unless they have been assigned to other duty. In this respect, please refer to my enclosed letters written to: / Charles B. Kalbaugh on December 18, 1990(28), / Nick P. Zervos on June 4, 1991(25), and / Jerry L. Jackson on October 6, 1992(4). You write that you would like to have more planning time and prefer to use at least some faculty senate meeting time for planning. You can be given more than the usual planning period, according to W.Va. Code 18A-4-14(2). Whatever planning time arrangement you make with your principal must be uniform in comparison with opportunities available to other teachers assigned to your school, according to subdivision (3) of this statute which is enclosed. Hoping that I have been of service, I am Sincerely, /s/
