WV Arts Team Project

The WV Arts Teams Project is completing its third phase.  The Project’s goal has been the development and delivery of quality, content-specific staff development for West Virginia’s teachers of dance, music, theatre, and visual art.  This has been done by RESA “arts teams.”   Each RESA has sent its team of eight people to take model training sessions on arts professional development areas of focus for the upcoming school year.  After participating in the model sessions, the 8-member teams design their RESA area’s professional development for arts teachers for the upcoming school year.  The result is an arts educators’ training that is uniquely suited to the area of the state that the teachers work in.  For the 2008-09 school year, the RESA teams are focusing on (a)  the use of the arts instructional guides on WVDE’s TEACH 21 website, and (b) the strengthening of connections with parents and the community.  Each team also serves as a resource of ongoing support and assistance to arts teachers in its RESA area throughout the year.
