Educators are encouraged to take advantage of the time and resources available before the implementation of the new standards, so they will be better able to provide input to the adoption of instructional materials in their counties and implement the new standards in their classrooms.
New instructional materials will be adopted and available for the implementation of the new science standards. Counties may begin to implement the new standards earlier than the 2016-17 school year, but they must be mindful that the West Virginia General Summative Assessment for the 2015-16 school year will be in grades 4, 6, and 10 for science and will be aligned to the current polices- Policy 2520.3 for science in grades K-8 and Policy 2520.35 for high school science.
