Burlington Center Breaks Ground
For New Gymnasium/multi-purpose Building

Posted: July 6, 2007
The Burlington Center, an OIEP program school located in Mineral County, is constructing a new multi-purpose building.

The official groundbreaking ceremony occurred June 20, 2007, on the campus of the Burlington’s Children Home.

Among the Gold Shovel honorees present for the groundbreaking were Mr. R. Matthew Kittle, Superintendent of OIEP schools (third from left), and Mr. Daniel B. Gardner, Principal, Burlington Center (fourth from left).

Mr. Kittle spoke of the many things that can be done when organizations serving the needs of children work together.

“Our power is limitless, and we are building this gym not only for those who are going to use it now, but also for those who come behind us,” said Kittle.

The major portion of the new structure will be a gymnasium with a full-sized basketball court.  The second phase of construction will be an academic wing to adjoin this new building.

The Burlington United Methodist Family Services, Inc., the host agency acquired funding for the new building through donations and fund raising events.

The Burlington Center starts its third year this fall and looks forward to the many opportunities this new building will provide the students.
