Question:

9.  Where do I find time to complete all this?

Answer:

Implementing and adapting a new model will take time. Our team won't deny this, nor will we try to sugar-coat it. This will take time initially; however, it will get easier.

When I hear this question, I think, “Where do you find time to plan now?” As a teacher, I used my planning period, times before and after school, and any other time I needed to effectively plan for my students' learning. This was before the Learning-Focused School Model. This would not change now. Teachers are extremely busy; yet we remain busy because we want kids to learn.

Now, that being said, there are some things you can do. Talk with your principal about finding some collaborative planning time with other teachers. If you have some help with this, it may not seem as daunting. The Office of Institutional Education will utilize teachers this year to create content maps that prioritize our curriculum into thematic units. These maps, once completed, should be utilized as guides for instruction. You will then be left with more time for creativity.
