National FFA Recognition
Wes Davis, a Mason County native and WVU student, was recognized by his West Virginia FFA family for his new role as the vice president of the National FFA Organization Eastern Region. It has been 39 years since a WV FFA student member has held such a high level position in the organization.

The Common Ground Partnership, established in 2011, focuses on promoting mentoring, training and providing scholarship opportunities to all students and creating networks of people, organizations and other resources to help support military children.

Actress Jennifer Garner, who grew up in Charleston, has joined the West Virginia Department of Education in its READ WV campaign to promote reading. Garner says, "It doesn't matter what you read with your kids. Just read."
What Are You Reading West Virginia?
Former West Virginians John Corbett, Sam Trammell and Jennifer Garner are joining West Virginia's Teacher of the Year to promote reading in the Mountain State.
Since the beginning of this 2013-2014 school year, Musselman High Schools Horticulture class has planted and cared for spinach and lettuce in the schools greenhouse. In October, the crop was harvested and will be used on the salad bar for the schools lunches. This project is part of the state's Farm to School initiative.

The Science Bowl Team and Suncrest Middle School in Monongalia County returned from the National Science Bowl Competition April 25-29 after placing fifth in the events middle school division. One of 1,023 middle school teams that competed in 46 regional Science Bowls earlier this year, the Suncrest team earned its berth in the national contest and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. by taking first-place honors in the statewide West Virginia competition.
