Teacher of the Year Program

The National Teacher of the Year Program began in 1952 and continues as the oldest most prestigious national honors program that focuses public attention on excellence in teaching.  Sponsored by the Council of Chief State School Officers and the Smarter Kids Foundation, this program is the longest, ongoing awards program honoring classroom teachers in the country.  The West Virginia Teacher of the Year Program is coordinated with the national program and annually recognizes all county teachers of the year at a ceremony in Charleston.  A committee appointed by the State Superintendent evaluates all county nominees and interviews a select group of finalists before making their final decision.  Chosen from among the State Teacher of the Year nominees by a national selection committee, the National Teacher of the Year is introduced to the American people by the President of the United States.  The West Virginia Teacher of the Year 2010 West Virginia Teacher of the Year Application and 2010 Teacher of the Year General Guidelines are accessible by clicking on their links.

Governor's Internship Program

West Virginia college students or West Virginia residents attending college elsewhere who meet the eligibility requirements may now apply to the 2007 Governor's Internship Program. The Governor's Internship Program offers eligible college students the opportunity to work in paid internships during the summer. The program strives to place students in internships by matching their interests with the needs of private businesses, state agencies, or non profit organizations seeking to host interns. For additional information regarding program guidelines and to submit an application visit the Governor's Internship Program website.

Grievance Forms

The Grievance Board has designed grievance forms that should be used in filing grievances.  The forms can be downloaded and printed in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF), a format widely used to distribute documents so the documents can be viewed and printed exactly as the original. To view and print a grievance form, you must first obtain the free Adobe Acrobat Reader from Adobe's web site.  Grievance forms and specific information on the grievance process may be downloaded from the West Virginia Grievance Board web site at WV Grievance Board.

Division of Personnel Organization and Human Resource Development

The Department of Administration's Division of Personnel regularly provides professional development classes for state employees.  Most training sessions are provided for supervisors and managers; however, there are a variety of classes available and applicable for all WVDE associate and professional staff. Sessions are scheduled for half-day (3 hours) and/or whole-day (6 hours).  Cost for WVDE employees range from $40 to $60 and are billed to the Department of Education at the end of each month.  Employees must receive prior approval from their supervisor before registering for any professional development training session. Employees may view and register on-line for available training sessions at Division of Personnel Professional Development.
