gives students an opportunity to enter data about themselves or their
diet and receive information .
- After students have
learned to read food labels and calculate the percentage of fat contained
in each serving, explain the formula for calculating the amount of calories
they must take in to maintain their desired body weight.
- Give students a weight
chart which takes into consideration the different body structures. All people
5'2" are not to weigh the same.
- Let students know that
3,500 calories = one pound of fat.
- If they would like
to loose a pound of fat in one week, they should eat 500 fewer calories per
day plus exercise to burn up the calories that are taken in.
- If they wish to gain
a pound, they need to eat 500 extra calories per day along with exercise.
- Stress the importance
of exercise along with a proper diet so that the calories are expended.
- Also stress the fact
that it is important to keep fat intake around 20% (mostly unsaturated fat),
closely watch the total calorie intake, and eat a variety of nutritious food.
- Supply students with
a chart showing the amount of calories burned while participating in several
different activities for a given period of time.
