West Virginia Highly Qualified Teacher Collaboratives are partnerships facilitated by the West Virginia Department of Education, Office of Title II-School and School System Improvement. The collaboratives provide an innovative pathway for teachers to become highly qualified in a high need area. The partnerships formed include school districts, RESAs, institutions of higher education, and community partners.
Participating teachers are provided a variety of experiences including course work, professional learning communities, summer institutes and other forms of professional development in order to complete course work necessary for certification in the area of study and to develop pedagogical skills necessary in today’s 21st Century classrooms. These experiences are provided at times that are convenient for teachers or by using delivery models that employ distance learning.
