Test Preparation

ACT

ACT is best known as the American College Test college entrance exam which most colleges in WV require.  They also produce and provide resources for the ACT EXPLORE (taken in 8th grade) and the ACT PLAN (taken in 10th grade).  This website provides a wealth of resources for counselors, students, parents and teachers to assist with academic and career planning. SAT

The SAT is the nation's most widely used admissions test among colleges and universities. It tests students' knowledge of subjects that are necessary for college success: reading, writing, and mathematics. The SAT assesses the critical thinking skills students need for academic success in college—skills that students learned in high school.

Summer Academic Support Programs

The Governor's Schools of West Virginia
The Governor's Schools of West Virginia are residential summer sessions for academically and/or artistically talented students from across West Virginia. The Governor's Schools consist of three programs that take place every summer on the campuses of various colleges and institutions of learning around the state. Students attend workshops, classes, and events with some of the best faculty and instructors from their field. Governor's Schools, entirely free for students, are administered by the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts. Boys Nation/Boys State
American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students. It is a participatory program where each participant becomes a part of the operation of his local, county and state government.

Girls Nation/Girls State
American Legion Auxiliary Girls State is a nonpartisan program that teaches young women responsible citizenship and love for God and Country. Since the inception of the Girls State program in 1937, nearly 1 million young people have had the opportunity to learn firsthand how their state and local government works.
