West Virginia School Counseling Protocols
In November of 2009, a group of elementary, middle and high school counselors met with WVDE leaderdership to begin developing protocols to guide practices of school counselors. While this is a work in progress, we will continue to post protocols as they are developed and approved by the committee and WVDE leadership.
What is a protocol? A protocol is the rules of correct practice and appropriate behavior or the best possible way of doing things. The school counseling protocols below are aligned with best practices that have been proven through experience and research to produce superior results. These protocols outline the processes and procedures every school counselor in West Virginia should follow in each area of practice. Some protocols include sample forms and lesson plans we recommend you adapt to meet the particular needs of your school. For questions about the protocols, please contact Barbara Ashcraft, School Counseling Coordinator bashcraft@access.k12.wv.us
We are adding new protocols as they are developed. Some protocols are still in draft form pending final review from the Protocol Committee and WVDE officials.
