Evaluating School Counselors

A new school counselor evaluation system is currently under development by WVDE. This system was piloted in nine schools during the 2011-12 school year. Like the new principal and teacher evaluation system, the school counselor evaluation system is continuing to be used by pilot sites and has been expanced to two additional sites per county who make up the 2012-13 Demonstration Sites. Only these schools are permitted to utilize the new evaluation system.

WVDE conducted two "Train-the-Trainer" workshops during the Summer of 2012. The county and RESA administrators who attended these trainings are reponsible for training counselors and principals in demonstration sites in each county to implement the new system. WVDE is using the feedback gained from the demonstration sites to continue to tweak the system before going state-wide to all schools during the 2013-14 school year. Below is a copy of the latest guide designed to assist schools with implementation.
