Evaluating School Counselors

ASCA School Counselor Performance Standards: These standards were developed by the American School Counselor Association and can assist you in knowing if your counselor's performance is meeting these recommended standards.

ASCA School Counselor Performance Appraisal: This performance appraisal is aligned with the ASCA school counselor performance standards and aligned with the role of the school counselor as per WVBOE Policy 2315. Counselor may wish to use this as a self-assessment tool and administrator may want to use it to help determine if counselor's performance is aligned with national best practices.

The WV Department of Education is in the process of developing state-wide school counselor performance standards. Watch for these standards to go on comment on the WVDE website soon. These standards will be the foundation for the new evaluation process now being designed by WVDE.
