The USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) has selected the WVDE Office of Child Nutrition to receive a Fiscal Year 2012 Direct Certification Performance Award in the amount of $338,383 for outstanding performance in child nutrition. The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 established performance awards to encourage State agencies administering the National School Lunch Program to ensure that all children eligible for direct certification with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) are directly certified. States were considered if they achieved a rate of at least the federally mandated 80 percent benchmark for direct certification with SNAP and were found to be among those with the highest direct certification performance rates for SY 2011-2012. West Virginia attained a direct certification performance rate of 100 percent.
