Ingredients

Green bell peppers, chopped0.25 cup0.5 cup1 cup

Tomato sauce0.5 cup1 cup2 cup
Tomatoes, chopped OR canned crushed tomatoes0.75 cup1.5 cup3 cup
Barbeque sauce0.25 cup0.5 cup1 cup
Whole wheat buns, hamburger or hot dog3 6 12

Directions

  1. 1. Spray skillet with cooking spray. sauté onions, carrots, green pepper and ground turkey (chicken) in a pan over medium-high heat for 5 minutes.
  2. 2. Add tomato sauce, chopped or crushed tomatoes, and barbeque sauce. Bring to a boil.
  3. 3. Reduce hat and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. 4. Uncover and cook for an additional 3 minutes or until thick.
  5. 5. Serve open-faced on toasted or plain whole wheat buns.
  6. 6. Refrigerate leftovers within 2 to 3 hours.
