MINUTES WEST VIRGINIA BOARD OF EDUCATION PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT/TRAINING SESSION Hoss's Steak and Shrimp House Meeting Room 192 Aikens Center Martinsburg, West Virginia June 4, 2006
I. President Lowell E. Johnson called the professional development/training session of the West Virginia Board of Education to order at 6:10 p.m. on June 4, 2006, in the meeting room at Hoss's Steak and Shrimp House, 192 Aikens Center, Martinsburg, West Virginia. The following members were present: President Johnson, Vice President Delores W. Cook, Secretary Priscilla M. Haden, Sheila M. Hamilton, Burma Hatfield, and Jenny N. Phillips and ex officio Steven L. Paine, State Superintendent of Schools. Members absent were Robert W. Dunlevy, Barbara N. Fish, Ronald B. Spencer and ex officios James L. Skidmore, Chancellor, the West Virginia Council for Community and Technical College Education, and Brian E. Noland, Chancellor, the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. II. The agenda was approved by consensus. III. President Johnson provided a brief overview of the professional development/training session topics. IV. Ms. Brenda Welburn, Executive Director, National Association of State Boards of Education, distributed information and provided an update regarding current federal education legislation. The Board's professional development/training session continues on June 5, 2006 beginning at 8 a.m. in the Opequon Room at the Comfort Inn Aikens Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia. VI.
