I.

Call to Order



President J. D. Morris called the meeting of the West Virginia Board of Education to order at 9:06 a.m. on January 5, 2001, in the Board Conference Room, Capitol Building 6, Room 353, 1900 Kanawha Boulevard, East, Charleston, West Virginia. Members present were Secretary Sandra M. Chapman, Barbara N. Fish, Sheila M. Hamilton, James J. MacCallum, Cleo P. Mathews, Paul J. Morris, Howard M. Persinger, Jr., Ronald J. Spencer and State Superintendent David Stewart. Special guests: Governor-Elect Bob Wise, Senator Lloyd Jackson, Delegate Jerry Mezzatesta and Kay Goodwin, Secretary Designate of the Department of Education and the Arts.



II.

Public Education Issues



Superintendent Stewart provided a presentation entitled "Public Education Issues."



III.

Officer Vacancy



Upon motion by James J. MacCallum, second by Cleo P. Mathews, the Board unanimously approved the nominations of Sandra M. Chapman to fill the position of Vice-President and Paul J. Morris to fill the position of Secretary.



IV.

Future Meetings

The next regular meeting of the West Virginia Board of Education will be held January 11 in Charleston, West Virginia.



V.

Adjournment



Upon motion by James J. MacCallum, second by Cleo P. Mathews, the Board, by unanimous vote, adjourned at 11:20 a.m.
