Persistence
Persistence

The core value driving academic persistence is the students’ competence in demonstrating the ability to capitalize on opportunities to participate in instruction and learning activities and earn graduation credentials. The expected outcomes for persistence are improved student participation in instruction and learning, reduced student exposure to drop-out risk factors and increased rates of successful school completion.

The measures incorporated into the WVAS for Persistence include:

  • Attendance rates that measure the extent to which students capitalize on opportunities to participate in instruction and learning activities by attending school
  • At-risk subgroup reduction rates that measure how well schools decrease the percentage of students identified as at-risk for dropping out of school based on academic, behavior and attendance risk indicators
  • Graduation rates that measure student success and readiness for education or careers after high school
