October 09Community Leader of the Year Award - the West Virginia Department of Education has chosen the Jackson Kelly law firm as the first recipient of the Community Leader of the Year Award. An award ceremony is slated from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday October 6, at Embassy Suites in Charleston. Jackson Kelly was chosen because of its Education Elevators Program, an outreach program created in 2007 with Piedmont Elementary School in Charleston. As part of Elevators Program, Jackson Kelly partners and employees work closely with the staff at Piedmont to support students one-on-one with academics, self-esteem and special interests.

March 2009The West Virginia Department of Education will honor a recipient in 2009 with the first Community Leader Service Award. This award is designed to recognize an individual, organization or business in West Virginia forexemplary work in parent, family and community partnerships with schools to increase student achievement. The criteria requirements and the application form can be accessed at (link). Nominations will be accepted until April 1, 2009.
